About Us

Surface Engineered Technologies (SET), formerly Ponderosa Paint Company, began manufacturing architectural and agricultural coatings in 1976. Over the past 40 years, we have focused on developing coating solutions for our customers and utilizing the latest innovation and technology to create environmentally friendly products that exceed expectations.  

At SET, we are able to react quickly and meet our customers’ specific needs because we are an independent manufacturer who is truly committed to helping our customers solve their coating challenges.

In the early 80’s, our alkyds and light industrial coatings had gained popularity with equipment and manufacturing markets and by the mid 80’s, we were focusing research, development and production on high performance industrial coatings. In the mid 90’s, an elastomeric coating was developed for wooden bins to reduce damage/bruising of tree fruit during transportation. 

In following years, protective coatings were developed for tank manufacturers throughout the United States, and we worked in tandem with the State of California Air Resources Board to develop a coating to lower emissions for above ground fuel storage tanks (Executive Order VR-301-A). SET is one of three approved coating manufacturers with this designation. As one of 7 coating manufacturers chosen for a special board by the American Coatings Association (ACA), SET will be instrumental in writing industry-wide specifications for resinous floor systems.

In 2018, we moved to a new corporate office and manufacturing facility. We also launched MonoSET, a urethane concrete product line. MonoSET is just one of many protective coating and resinous flooring systems being produced at SET’s new facility.
